John Kerber Obituary

Kerber, John Bernard age 67 died on August 27 after a 6 year illness with Lewy Body Dementia. John was born in Chanhassen, MN. His favorite childhood pastime was working on his uncle's farm across the road. John was the son of a carpenter, and he just could not stand to live in a house without knocking out a wall or finishing the basement. There are many Habitat for Humanity homes in the Twin Cities that have his stamp on them. John graduated from St. Thomas University and St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained a priest in 1975. He left the priesthood after 5 years, and went to work for Control Data where he pursued his passion for the dawning digital age. Later he obtained a doctorate in psychology from Argosy University, and practiced clinical psychology for many years in Hutchinson and Chaska. John's other passions included skiing, music, and family. John taught skiing for 12 years through Blizzard Ski and Snowboard School. He was always ready to play his 12-string guitar at a campfire, a party, or a worship service, and especially for a group of children anywhere. Even in his illness, he continued to be a lead soloist in the Open Circle day care dementia choir until a month before his passing. Preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Helen Kerber and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. John is survived by his wife Ellen Kerber, his sons Timothy Kerber (Justin), David Kerber (Mackenzie) and Joseph Kerber (Megan), as well as his beloved grandson Louis Kerber, sister, Janet (Dennis) Vanatta, aunt Elaine and many loving cousins and friends. Visitation will be at Huber Funeral Home, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie on Wednesday, August 31 from 4-8 pm. Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Pax Christi Catholic Community 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie on Thursday, September 1 with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am. Lunch will follow at the church. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials to Habitat for Humanity are preferred.
