Gary Lucas

Gary Lee Lucas Westphalia Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Gary was born December 1, 1937, the son of Donald and Lula (Robinson) Lucas. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Westphalia, Michigan. He worked at Mitchell Bentley painting automobiles, John Bean Company, owned and operated Gary’s Body Shop, and was an auto body repairman at Shaheen Chevrolet for 27 years. Gary was fun-loving, an avid golfer and guitar player, and was active in the Quarter-Midget Car Club. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Lee Lucas; brothers, Gordon (Ruth) Lucas and Richard Lucas; and sister, Glenda Braun. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Jane (Arens) Lucas; children, Lonnie Lucas of Phoenix, Arizona, Jacki (Jim) Cook of Kalamazoo, and Michelle Lucas of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Travis and Jacob Lucas, Carmen, Brittany, Austin, and Logan Cook, Hartlee and Kevin Charles Lucas; great-grandson, Porter, who is on the way; sisters, Connie (Ralph) Watts and Janet (Roy) Stambaugh; sister-in-law, Ruth E. Lucas; and brother-in-law, Bill Braun. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St.,Westphalia, MI.
