Irene Furlong Irene Furlong passed away Tuesday May 24, 2016 at Pennock Hospital with all her loving family at her side. Irene fought a long courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer's. Irene was born in Dorton Kentucky on September 9, 1937 to Charles and Emma (Sharp) Cherry. She moved to Michigan with her mother at 5 years of age after the death of her father. She was raised in Eaton Rapids and attended Eaton Rapids High School. After school Irene married Robert Goodnoe which ended in divorce but remained close friends. Irene married Russell Furlong in 1983 in Nashville Michigan. Irene owned and operated Irene's Beauty Shop, retiring in 1985. Irene loved to spend her summers at the cottage on Thornapple Lake with her husband Russell and brother in law Richard Furlong. Irene loved to cook, shop, and to spend time with her family. Irene is survived by her loving husband, Russell Furlong, daughter Daun Goodnoe, son Robert Goodnoe Jr., stepsons Randy Furlong, and Cory (Jenna) Furlong, 12 grandchildren: Mandi (Brad) Goodnoe-McKee, Sara Smedley, Charleen Furlong, Kaytlin Furlong, Diana Goodnoe, Weston Goodnoe, Meghan (Dale) Platte, Rachel Howard, Courtney Howard, Lance Howard, Cayden Courter, Ryleigh Courter. Also 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great greatgrandchild, brothers Johnny Cherry and Walter Cherry, brother- in-law Richard Furlong, and sister-in-law Sandie Furlong, loving dogs "Lady" and "Rosita", and several nieces and nephews. Irene is predeceased by her parents along with Brothers Bill Cherry, Harold Cherry and Sister Essie. Irene was also preceded in death by sister in laws Maxine Cherry, Ruth Cherry, Mabel Wilson, Caroline Furlong, brothers in law Kenneth Furlong, and Neil Wilson, and special friend Judy Furlong. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville. Funeral services will be held 28 May, 216 at 2:00 pm by Pastor Greg Mattson. A time of fellowship will be held after services at Grace Community Church in Nashville, Mi. After fellowship graveside services will be held at the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, MI for all wishing to come.
