Merlin Ray “Mert” Jacobs Merlin Ray “Mert” Jacobs, age 57 of Milwaukee, passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Monday June 20, 2016. He was born on June 21, 1958 in Manistee, son of the late LeRoy and Donna (Staff) Jacobs. Mert attended Manistee High School and graduated with the class of 1976. On January 30, 2010 Mert married Rose Edic in Columbus, Nebraska. Merlin was a longtime member and most recently pastor at Grace Chapel in Milwaukee and worked for Veolia Water as a computer console operator. Mert was the loving husband of Rose (Nee Iwan)(Formerly Edic) of Milwaukee; Father of Andrea Vonckx of Milwaukee and Sharon Edic of Omaha, NE; Grandfather of Tosh, Orion, Levi of Milwaukee and Kai of Omaha; Brother of Lorna (Gary) Perski of Manistee, Darrell Jacobs Manistee, Karen (Roger) Asiala of Houston, TX, Shelly Newman (Steve) of Manistee and Faron (Alison) Jacobs of Manistee. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will take place in two cities for Mert. First, in Milwaukee at Heritage Funeral Home, 6615 W. Oklahoma Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53219. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday June 24, 2016 at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 PM with Song and Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends for visitation again on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with Celebration Service at 11:00 AM. Secondly, funeral services in Manistee for Mert will take place at Heritage Baptist Church, 655 E. Parkdale Avenue, Manistee, MI 49660. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church on Friday July 1, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM with Song and Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends for visitation again on Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with Celebration Service at 11:00 AM, Pastor Eric Struble officiating. Cremation will follow and a private interment service will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Mert may be directed to the family at this time, as they will be put towards the missions at Mert’s church.
