Gerald Hodde

Dr. Gerald Lee Hodde, 78, of Ludington, passed away peacefully at Tendercare on October 2, 2016. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 28, 1937 to the late Charles and Frances (Korstange) Hodde. He graduated from Creston High School in 1955 and then attended Grand Rapids Junior College. In 1960, Jerry married the love of his life, Susan Johnson, graduated from the Illinois College of Chiropody and Foot Surgery and opened his practice in Ludington. He loved his work and the patients he cared for throughout his career. Over the years, Jerry was actively involved in his community. He was a past president of the Ludington Jaycees and a member of the Ludington Harbor Commission. He also spent many years on the board of the Ludington Mass Transit Authority. Jerry had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He especially loved to hunt and fish and was always generous in sharing his catch. Wintertime found him on the ski slopes with his family and friends. After retiring in 1999, wintering in Florida replaced skiing. This led him to find a new passion, salt water fishing. Jerry enjoyed traveling and together with Susan, was able to see much of the world. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Susan. Children Christopher, of Ludington, MI; Laura (Peter) Jones of Lathrup Village, MI; Grandchildren, Dylan, Colin and Anwen Jones. He is also survived by his sister-in law, niece, nephew, cousins and many close friends. A visitation will be held the evening prior to service; Friday, October 14, 2016 at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. There will be a service held in memory of Gerald at the Ludington United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., with a one hour visitation starting at 9:00 A.M. Memorial contributions in memory of Jerry may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, HELP Ministries or United Methodist Church of Ludington.
