Daniel Joseph Allard Jr. age 94 of Ludington, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2016 at Ludington Woods. He was born on July 18, 1921 in Ludington to the late Daniel Joseph Sr. and Alma (Hansen) Allard.


Dan attended St. Simon elementary and high school, graduating in 1941.


Dan was a Corporal in the USMC, first marine division during WWII. He participated in action against enemy forces in the Southwest Pacific at Cape Gloucester and Talasea in New Britain. He was wounded in action in October of 1944 at Peleliu, Palau Islands. Dan recovered stateside and was discharged in 1945 and awarded the Purple Heart. Other military awards include marksman, rifle NCO and good conduct.


On May 17, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Church, he married Jenny Yeskey. She preceded him in death in 1994.


In 1984 Dan retired as Plant Superintendent from Harsco after 42 years. After his retirement Dan and Jenny traveled to warmer climates of AZ, CA, and FL during the winter months. They connected with family and friends on these trips, several reunions, gatherings and food events would follow.


Dan was a member of St. Simon Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles, DAV, and American Legion. He was inducted into the Mason County Softball Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.


Hobbies for Dan included; gardening, bowling, golfing and fishing. He especially enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada with his friends. He attended the Wellness Center at WSCC for many years.


Dan coached varsity basketball for the St. Simon High Shamrocks from 1949 to 1963, with a few years off as Athletic Director. He was himself a star forward for the Shamrocks when he was in high school, also getting other athletic achievements.


Dan is survived by his daughters; Mary Ann and son-in-law Mark Flannery, Nancy Allard, sister; Mary Bettie (Ken) Boone, brothers; Robert (Vernita) Allard, William (Alice) Allard, and Paul (Sandy) Allard, special friends; Frank and Joan Verburg, as well as several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.


He is also preceded in death by his sister; Arlys (Richard) Derrick and brother; John (Bayone) Allard.


Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 12:00PM with Father Wayne Wheeler celebrant at St. Simon Church. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 11:00AM until the time of service. There will also be a time of visitation on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 6:00-8:00PM with a vigil prayer at 7:30PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. Burial will be at Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery in Ludington.
