Nancy Callahan

Nancy Lee (Fair) Callahan, 86, of Bedford, Texas, formerly of Coldwater, passed peacefully away in the presence of her two daughters on Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Bedford, Texas. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home. Nancy was born September 8, 1930 in Homer, Michigan, then lovingly adopted in 1936 by Harold & Mary Helen (Swaffield) Fair. They provided a wonderful, charmed life for Nancy and she felt truly blessed to gain her new big brother Jerry Fair, who has shown such support to her through the years. As a young girl Nancy performed dance at various venues in town including on the Tibbits Theater stage. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1949, starring in the drama “The Divine Flora,” drummer in the “A” Band, and chosen as D.A.R. Girl Good Citizen. Nancy married her high school sweetheart Edward D. Callahan on November 3, 1951 in Coldwater, following him to Navy bases and various career postings in California, Ohio, Delaware, Texas, Florida and then returning to Coldwater in 2003 when they built a beautiful home in Batavia Township on Kimble farmland where Edward grew up. He preceded her in death there on the farm on November 24, 2007. Mrs. Callahan was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker who volunteered at various churches as a Sunday school teacher and office secretary. She helped with her grandchildren after school and was a devoted caregiver to her mother for 11 years. Nancy always had a deep love of nature, frequently collecting rocks, shells and flowers from her travels. She loved music and was very fond of anything related to early American history, a true patriot spirit. Nancy spent her last 19 months at an independent senior apartment 4 miles from her daughter Sarah. Parc Place Retirement was a wonderful home where Nancy loved her new friends and activities such as morning exercise, bingo, Sunday Brunch, movies, and concerts where she would dance. Nancy is survived by her daughters Susan (Robert) Houser of West Chester, PA; Sarah (Elliot) Simon of Colleyville, TX; granddaughters Elizabeth (Greg) Simeone, Sarah Houser, Jennifer (Peter) Wilson, Michelle Simon, Nicole Simon, five great-grandchildren, brother Jerry Fair of Coldwater and his children & grandchildren.
