Of Waltham, passed away early Sunday morning, June 5, 2016 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 64. Born and raised in Waltham to the late John P. and Susan A. (Edmunds) Whelan, he was a lifelong resident of Waltham. Mr. Whelan served honorably in the Untied States Marine Corps as a Private during the Vietnam Era. For several years Mr. Whelan was employed by the Waltham Hospital as an orderly. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox. He was a friend of Bill W. and attended many local meetings. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a kind man and a good neighbor. He was the loving brother of John B Whelan of Waltham,. Susan E. Whelan of Waltham, and Retired Waltham Police Officer Michael Whelan of Waltham., and devoted uncle of Kimberly Whelan of Nashua, NH.
