BARRE- Robert H. Leander, son of Robert and Mary Leander, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday August 20, 2016. He was born on March 29, 1947 in Holden, Massachusetts, where he lived for most of his life before retiring and moving to Barre, MA. Robert “Bobby” leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Leslie Kelly Leander, and his three children, Michael and his wife Meghan of Barre, Sara and her husband Robert Morris of Marlborough, and Kathleen and her husband Lee Zereski of Barre. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and his dog Casey who he enjoyed walking multiple times a day. Bobby graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1965. He was a proud member of the Army and Airforce. It was in the service that he gained an understanding of telecommunications that fostered his career with Ma Bell and Verizon for over 35 years. He was also a volunteer Holden firefighter and EMT for over 20 years. Throughout his life, Bobby enjoyed fishing, water skiing, driving his boat “the Hog” and tinkering with any household item that needed fixing. He was extremely honest and loved to lend a helping hand or offer an insight. He loved family games, country music, sharing his tools and talking town happenings or home restoration with anyone that would share in a story. Most of all Bobby loved his grandkids. “Grampa” was always building and making their imaginations come to life with a few nails and boards. He spent time teaching the kids how to fish, enjoyed taking sundown boat rides on the lake, and never missed a grandchild’s sporting event, concert, or recital. Those of us that knew Bobby, Bubba, “Captain Bob”, Bob, Dad or Grampa knew he always put everyone ahead of himself. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, September 23,2016 from 5-7PM in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Rd., Barre, MA 01005, A private family and friend “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday in the funeral home.
