BARRE- John J. Scott, 78, passed after a long illness at Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center on July 4, 2016. Born September 20, 1937 to Kenneth and Helen (Binowski) Scott of Barre. John is survived by his brother James Scott of Malden,MA. and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, mother and a sister Margaret "Peggy" Padula of Chatham,NY. John was a decorated Air Force Captain, earning a Bronze Star while in Vietnam and other commendations as well. After leaving the military, he earned his Masters of Arts from Ball State University and he was a history teacher at Montechusett Regional Vocational Technical School. John was a highly regarded teacher and mentor. John served on many committees, including the Quabbin Regional School Committee and Montechusett Regional School Committee. Many of John’s colleagues were lifelong friends. John was known all around town and was famous for his sauerkraut. During John’s retirement years, he became involved with the South Barre Rod & Gun, John made lots of clam chowder; loved gardening; and took care of his fruit trees. When he wasn’t cooking and gardening, John tended to his cats and dogs, and sang. The family would like to thank Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center for John’s superb care. Burial will be private in Glen Valley Cemetery at a later date.
