Edward Keefe

EAST BROOKFIELD – Edward George Keefe,60, succumbed to complications from stage IV melanoma on October 4,2016. Ed was born on September 17, 1956, in Northampton, to Edward Eugene of Leeds, MA and the late Gail Ann (Goller) Keefe. Ed’s life focus and work was toward the physical health and wellbeing of himself and others. He was an accomplished swimmer, skier, biker, runner and lover of nature. He graduated cum laude from Springfield College in 1979 and pursued a lifetime career in health and wellbeing while working for the YMCA. Ed worked for the YMCA in various capacities in Northampton, Salem, Brockton and Southbridge, MA.. He retired in May of 2012 from the Tri-Community YMCA in Southbridge after twenty three years as their Executive Director. Ed also worked as the Parks and Recreation Director in Yarmouth, MA during the late 1970s. It was while working for the Brockton YMCA, Ed met and fell in love with his wife, Ann Therese MacDermott-Keefe. They shared thirty three years of life and love as a couple and have two beautiful, accomplished children, Edward Carl of Northampton and Katherine Ann of Grafton. In addition, Ed leaves behind his faithful Weimaraner, Lucy. Ed’s extended family includes his brother, Brian Keefe and wife Su of Greensboro, NC and their children Harrison and Avery; and his sister, Colleen Belden and her husband Sam of Hatfield, MA and their daughter, Abigail.
