Robert Davis Obituary

Robert Henry Davis, Jr. passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident a few days earlier. Bob was born in Washington, DC in 1927 to Robert Henry Davis Sr and Mabel Virginia Getty. He served as a sonar technician in submarines at the end of World War II and parlayed the accompanying technical education into a long career in electronics. His specialty was hardening circuits against high G-forces and high temperatures, earning him an assignment to the Mercury space program in the late 1950’s. He performed electronics R&D for the US Army for many years. Before and after government retirement, Bob hand-built a house in Mt. Airy over a 17-year period. He and Lorraine, whom he married in 1954, made Mt. Airy their home since 1963. Lorraine died three months ago after 62 married years with Bob. He was a member of the Mt. Airy Lions Club for many years. Left to mourn Bob’s passing are sons Fred, Jim (Debbi) and Bob (Kara); grandchildren Aaron, Josh and Elizabeth; sisters Margaret Bush, Signe Ann Thrift (John) and Betty Waldron; nephew Andy Waldron and numerous cousins and friends. Bob was one of those people who made friends easily and was always a joyful presence. He was equally likely to press upon you a chocolate brownie or a Starlite peppermint. He was a great husband, father and friend and would always go out of his way to provide help. He loved bird-watching with Lorraine, and they were frequent visitors to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern Shore. Lorraine was the great love of Bob’s life, and they renewed their wedding vows several times. For him, heaven is wherever Lorraine is, and we wished him Godspeed as he flew to join her. The family will gather at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville (Winfield), Maryland, on Tuesday, October 18th from 1pm to 2pm to remember Bob and visit with friends. www.burrier-queen.com
