Helen Marie Lages, (nee) Harrison, age 89 of Rockdale, MD died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD. She was the spouse of the late Philip Nelson Lages for 68 years. She was born in Durham, North Carolina on Nov 6, 1926 the daughter of the late Lottie Mae (nee) Grady and the late Hubert Herbert Harrison. She would have been 90 yrs. old this year. Her father left North Carolina and moved his family with him to Catonsville. He supervised the construction of the Rt. 40 Bridge over the Patapsco River. She attended Catonsville HS and played in three scholastic letter sports. During WWII she played basketball for the Glenn L. Martin Bomberettes. She was employed by Baltimore County Board of Education as a school secretary at Hebbville Elementary school. She loved music and was honored at St. James EV Lutheran Church for being a member of the choir for 50 years. A constant companion for her husband, she was the head cheerleader and score book keeper for the many teams that he coached over the years. She loved watching her grandchildren play rec and scholastic sports. She enjoyed her vacations with family and friends in Ocean City, MD. She was instrumental in starting a sewing club of neighbors on Langrehr Road that developed into lifelong friendships with her neighbors. Surviving relatives include a sister, Lois Harrison Douglas, daughters Barbara J. Lages and Claudia L. Fischer and husband Ted F. Fischer, grandchildren Mandy Fischer and Matt Fischer and wife Chrissie V. Fischer. Great grandchildren Maggie, Matthew and Charles Philip Fischer. Additionally and very important to her were her nieces and nephews, Bob Douglas and Candace Chandler, David and Nancy Baker, Dale and Gail Baker, Diane Garro, JoAnn Taylor and Opie Ricker, Bill and Allyson Taylor, Linda and Bob Klein, Wayne Lages, Don Lages, Connie Taylor, Bob and Marsha Garner, Gaye and Jay Berry. Friends Ken and Pam Koehler, and Doris Euler. The family will receive guests on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 10:00-12:00 NOON at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, (Beside South Carroll High School) A memorial service will start at 12:00 Noon for both Philip and Helen Lages. Inurnment at Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests that in memory of Helen and Philip Lages that an act of kindness be performed in their honor.
