Cyril Hoover Obituary

Cyril “Cy” James Hoover went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Osterburg, PA on September 26, 1940, to John and Eva Hoover. Cy was the youngest of seven children and grew up on the family farm. He entered the Air Force in January 1963 and served for four years. On September 10, 1966 he married the love of his life, Catherine Belford and they had two daughters. After serving his country, Cy was a heavy equipment maintenance engineer. He was also an excellent woodworking craftsman and wedding photographer. After Cy retired, he worked part time at Ace Hardware in Winfield and volunteered at the ESSL in Frederick. He could also be found tending his chickens “the girls” that brought back memories of his childhood on the farm. In addition to his wife Cathy, he is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Johnson of Sykesville, MD, and Christine (Christopher) Hickle of Walkersville, MD, three grandsons JT, Daniel and Devon; one sister, Shirley Carey of Fayetteville, PA, and one brother, Orville (Mary) Hoover of Alum Bank, PA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, John Harold Hoover and Eva Levella Wentz, brothers Blaine, Bud and Vincent, and sister Helen. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 15 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home located at 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD. Burial will be at Fishertown Cemetery in Schellsburg, PA on Saturday, July 16 at 11am with Pastor Janet Cregger presiding. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Carroll Hospital Center, especially the nurses of 3 South who took such great care of Cy. The family also expresses their gratitude to The Dove House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Carroll Hospice, Inc. 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD or William E. Kahlert Regional Cancer Center 291 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD.
