Mildred A. Davis was born at Provident Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland on December 21, 1934 and entered in eternal rest at the age of 81 on July 26, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Marian B. and James C. Thompson.

Mildred attended Asbury Elementary School and Belair Colored High School. She graduated from Central Consolidated School. In 1951, she married Wylie E. Davis, whom preceded her in death. From that union four children were born. While her children were young, Mildred honed her many talents. She quickly became known as the best cook and baker in the family and also enjoyed writing poems and song lyrics. After 20 years of service she retired from the Harford County Board of Education.

Mildred held membership in the Asbury Community Association, NAACP, and Central Consolidated Alumni. She was a faithful member and dedicated worker in the Asbury United Methodist Church until its closing. In 1991, she became a member of Helping Hands Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Roger L. Tatuem where she was loving known in the church as “Mother Davis” and often quoting her favorite scripture from the Book of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3. In 1995, she was celebrated as one of the leading ladies in Harford County by Rocks Baptist Church. In 2010, she was acknowledged at a prayer breakfast as a dedicated mother at Helping Hands Ministries. And in 2014, she was honored as a pillar of the community and a plaque was dedicated in her name by Thy Kingdom Come Ministries under Bishop Irvin Wainwright, Jr.

Mildred leaves to love and forever cherish her memory her four children: Keith Davis, Sr. (Debora); Deborah Davis-Demby (Ralph); Carroll Davis, also known as Butch; and Marian Simpson (Jeff), also known as Ginny. A sister, Ellen Garriest (Robert Sr.) and a brother, James Thompson, Jr. Eight grandchildren, Marcus Webster, Sr. (Lynelle); Leigh-Anya Webster; Keith Davis, Jr. (Millette); Adrian Wright; Chanelle Pounds; Eric Davis; Jason Davis; and Caitlyn Davis. Thirty-six great and great-great grandchildren. She was called Mom and Sister by many to include “daughter’s” Anna Davis, Sandra Johnson, Mosetta Warfield, and Joanne Woodley; and “sisters”, Alma Fielder, Catherine Lawson, Thelma Lester, Gertrude Miller, and Catherine Reed. And a host of other relatives and friends.
