It is with sadness to announce that Edith Geneva Pierpont Bragg passed away on Saturday, September 17th at the age of 84. Edith was a resident of Augusta, Maine and formerly of Jefferson, Maine for most of her life. Edith was independent and strong willed and remained so until her passing. She was born in Washington, Maine April 25th 1932 to Elizabeth G French Pierpont and Arthur J Pierpont. She was the salutatorian in her eighth grade year at the two room Jefferson Village School. In her graduating year of 1950 from Waldoboro High School she was elected to be the class prophesier. She worked summers waitressing in Kennebunk and Waldoboro to pay for her two years in business administration at the University of Maine at Orono. Edith belonged to the Alumni Association of the University of Maine at Orono. Edith spent from June to October of 1952 doing clerical work at the American Trust Co, in Palo Alto, California, then returned to Maine from 1952 to 1960 as a clerical worker at Sylvania Electric in Waldoboro, Maine. After 17 years of raising her two children Edith returned to work as a clerk typist for the State of Maine, DHS from May of 1977 to November of 1992. She worked in the division of licensing of child care units. Upon retiring from the State of Maine Edith received a recognition award for 15 years of distinguished service. Upon returning from California in 1952 Edith accepted her high school sweetheart’s proposal and was wed in October of 1952. Both her and Norman H. Bragg had very strong work ethics. and had their home paid off in five years, before they had children. Norman and Edith were married for 47 years. Edith loved her children and wanted them to be happy and advocated for their education and well being. She was a homemaker and loved to bake. She enjoyed organizing family gatherings around member’s birthdays and various celebrations and spending time with the extended family. She took pride in caring for her aging parents as well as her mother-in law Ella. Edith saw a need for caring for the disabled elderly and volunteered at the Muskie Center in Waterville, Maine as well as Senior Spectrum in Damariscotta, Maine as her form of community service. She also contributed to the Bunker Hill Ladies Aid, Veteran Association, and American Heart Association. Edith has been a long standing member of the Orff's Corner Community Church in Waldoboro, Maine. Edith gave her all to both her children and thought the world of her two granddaughters and daughter-in-law. She thought ahead of time what to gift them all for their birthdays and special occasions in their lives, and always had a well thought out card or gift ready for each of them when the time came. She was predeceased by her brother Clinton Pierpont, sister-in-law Betty Pierpont, her cousin Edward Pierpont and his wife Valencia. Edith leaves behind her ex-husband Norman H. Bragg, and her daughter Cynthia Bragg, both from Jefferson, Maine; her son Jeffrey Bragg of Jefferson, and her daugher-in-law Lynn Cote-Bragg of Mt. Vernon, Maine; her sister Gertrude Hewett of Augusta Maine and sister Carolyn St. Peter of Fitchburg Massachusetts, and brother Robert Pierpont, of Whitefield, Maine. Edith leaves behind her two granddaughters Elise Bragg and Lily Bragg both of Mt Vernon, Maine. Visiting hours are Friday September 30th at Halls Funeral Home in Waldoboro, Maine from 5pm to 7pm. Edith's funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1st 2016 at 2pm at the Orff's Corner Community Church in Waldoboro, Maine. Interment will follow the service at Orff's Corner Cemetery Waldoboro, Maine. A reception will take place after interment in the parish at the Orff's Corner Community Church.
