Clarice Giusani Waldoboro, Maine Obituary

Clarice Giusani

This is written in loving memory of Clarice Jameson Giusani of Friendship who passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 19, 2016 at the age of 91. Clarice was born in Rockland to Bird B. and Adelia B. Jameson of Friendship on December 15, 1924. She was raised in Friendship, assisting her parents in the family store, B.B. Jameson Groceries, Produce and Meats. She graduated from Thomaston High School in June of 1942. Clarice met her husband John Giusani in Rockland while he was stationed there with the Coast Guard. They married in May of 1944 after having been friends and correspondents for many months. They lived in Long Island, New York for a short time during which both of their children Elizabeth and Stephen were born. Shortly after the birth of their son, they moved back to Friendship where they lived at and operated the family store. This too was short lived, and after 8 years, they moved to Clarice’s parents’ farm just outside of town. Sadly, John passed away in February of 1964. Clarice worked as a teller at the Waldoboro Savings and Loan to support her family. Through integrity, intelligence, and an old-fashioned New England work ethic, she advanced within the bank to become a Vice President. Despite retiring in 1990, she continued to serve as secretary to the Board of Directors until the age of 72. Throughout her more than 30 years of banking, she witnessed tremendous changes in the industry. These included the age of the computer and corporate restructuring. Clarice also had many interests outside of work. She was involved in and contributed to such organizations and groups as the United Methodist Women, Senior Citizens, Community Club, VFW Auxiliary and WAFD. She has been a faithful member of the Friendship United Methodist Church since 1924 and taught Sunday school there for several years. Clarice displayed such characteristics as friendship, honesty, solidarity, and inner strength. She had an adventurous spirit, generosity of heart, and intelligent humor. She was loved by many and will always be remembered with fondness. Some of her greatest joys in life included spending time with her family, going out to lunch with “the girls” with whom she had graduated, square dancing, and traveling. Clarice will be sadly missed by her daughter Betty and son-in-law Craig Wotton of Friendship; son Steve Giusani of Wiscassett; Sandi and Art Ballard of Bowdoinham; granddaughters Alelia Hilt-Lash of Friendship, Angela Volkert of Massachusetts, Valerie Giusani of Whitefield, and Jennifer Novicka of Rockland. She will also be remembered by her great grandchildren: Alexia Hilt, Amanda Johnson, Shelby Lash, Vincent and Dexter Volkert, and Cassidy, Reese and Lucas Novicka. Clayton Hoak of Waldoboro, her companion and best friend of more than 30 years, will also feel the loss. The countless other family members and friends whose lives she touched will also remember her fondly. Clarice’s family invites you to celebrate her life with visiting hours at Hall’s Funeral Home in Waldoboro on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the Friendship United Methodist Church on Friday, June 24, 2016 at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clarice’s memory may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 189, Friendship, Maine 04547. Hall’s of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements.
