Richard Waceken Millinocket, Maine Obituary

Richard Waceken

Millinocket - Richard Bronick Waceken, 73, died suddenly at his camp, one of his favorite spots, on Friday, October 7, 2016 following many years of ill health. He was born December 5, 1942 in Waterville, the son of Bronick and Juliette (Perry) Waceken. He grew up in Fairfield and was a graduate of Stearns High School in Millinocket, class of 1963. Shortly after high school he met the love of his life, Norma Rafuse. Dick served in the U.S. Navy for a short period of time and worked more than 40 years at the Great Northern Paper Company. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing in his younger adulthood. One of his greatest achievements was building his “dream camp” on State Island on Millinocket Lake – an accomplishment that he was very proud of. Friends and family were always welcome in his home. Entertaining friends and family provided him great joy. In recent years he and Norma spent many enjoyable hours at auctions and yard sales searching for the ultimate find to list on E-bay. His family meant the world to him. Nothing was more important to him than his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma Waceken; two sons, Stephen and his wife Annette and Richard and his wife Angela; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, Colby, Calli, Justin, and Megan; a great grandson, Emory; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by a brother, James, and an uncle, who Dick thought of as a second father, John Borodko. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 P.M. Friday, October 14 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Avenue, Millinocket with the Rev. Robert Landry, deacon, officiating. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Dick may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
