Millinocket – Bernard L. Ward, 86, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at a Millinocket hospital. He was born August 31, 1929 in Millinocket, the son of Bonard and Katherine (Bishop) Ward. Bernard served a 4 year tour in the U.S. Air Force, and spent 27 months of that time in Panama, and then served twelve years in the Air Force Reserves. He worked 49 years as an electrician for the Great Northern Paper Company, and while there, developed a close friendship with Gary Brewer which lasted many years until Gary’s death. Bernard loved to travel, and visited many destinations with his wife, Elizabeth. Among some favorite trips were Colombia, Europe, and many trips to Florida. In his leisure time at home, he occasionally enjoyed fishing. Bernard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth (Ocampo) Ward; a sister in law, Tina Lyons; nieces and nephews, Jenny Ocampo, Haley and Chelsea Lyons, and Gabrielle, Whitney, Zander, and Kain Osborne; two cousins, Agnes and Lorna; and a good friend, Gerald Brewer. He was predeceased by his parents and cousins Lillian Durham and Barbara Pratt. Bernard was also predeceased by his faithful canine friend, Honeycomb. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Sunday, May 22 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, May 23. Interment, with military honors, will be at East Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Bernard may be sent to the Bangor Humane Society, 697 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401.
