Christened Pearl Elnora Burnham, she got her nickname “Midge” the day she was born, when her maternal grandmother took one look at her and said “That’s a midget if I ever saw one.” She grew up in Livermore Falls and was educated in the Livermore Falls school system. During her childhood Pearl was a member of the local 4-H, enjoyed roller skating at Bear Pond, going to the movies at the Dreamland Theater with her friends, and always kept busy doing such odd jobs as babysitting, housekeeping, and picking beans for the local cannery, all to earn money for her school clothes. During her working and retirement years, she enjoyed relaxing at camp, knitting, crocheting, listening to music, and “playing the ponies”.
