CHELSEA, MAINE Barbara A. James - age 78, of Townhouse Road, died February 26, 2015 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive, Augusta, ME after a brief illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on October 1, 1936 the daughter of Arthur A. Gilley and Augustus A. (Harmon) Gilley. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. James was employed by the Maine Department of Labor for four years. She was previously employed by the Veterans Administration Center at Togus for 15 years as a medical secretary, and she owned and operated Prides Manor in West Gardiner for seven years. Barbara was a former member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks. She enjoyed her grandchildren, ballroom dancing, ceramics, and horses. Her husband, Burleigh Murl James, predeceased her on July 1, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joseph Cote, Jr. and by a brother, Robert Allen Gilley. Surviving are three daughters: Barbara Ann Gero of Chelsea, ME, Debra Willard of Vassalboro, ME and Pamela Lee Barker of Lincoln, ME; one son, John B. James of Augusta, ME; and six grandchildren: Desiree, Hunter, Heather, Lynsie, Aric and Richard. There will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers will be offered 10 AM Wednesday March 4, 2015 in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, ME. Memorial donations may be made to either MaineGeneral Home Care & Hospice, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME, 04903-0828 or Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.
