Helen Annett Pierce

PIERCE, Helen Annetta, born July 5, 1936 in Des Moines, IA to the late William O., Sr. and Helen Fay Purdy, passed away July 20, 2016 in Chattanooga, TN. She graduated from Wellesley College as an economics major and graduated with two Master’s Degrees in social work from the University of Louisville. She worked as a social worker at Our Lady of Peace Hospital and The Brook Hospital helping many families in need. She married William H. Pierce on December 22, 1956. They had three children; Joan (Ricky) Bruckman, of Mt. Vernon, IN, Dr. David (Kathleen) Pierce, of San Diego, CA, and Robert “Bob” Pierce, of Columbus, OH; grandson, Carlos Bruckman, of Mt. Vernon, IN; and brother, James (JoAnne) Purdy, of Florida. She was preceded in death by her brother, William O. Purdy, Jr. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at Highlands. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Nature Conservancy.
