Genella Shaheen

SHAHEEN, Genella George, 93, died peacefully at her home on August 24, 2016. Genella was born in Lebanon, KY on January 13, 1923, the daughter of Salem and Mae Coury George, Lebanese immigrants. Genella was raised on the family farm where she took care of her younger siblings, and attended St. Augustine. She married Wilbur Shaheen in 1947, her husband of 56 years. Besides being the greatest Mom in the world, Genella was a fabulous cook. You could always find her in the “basement” cooking, baking, giving lessons, and sharing scrumptious Mediterranean food with family and friends. Genella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, George Salem, Sr., Hyleme S. George, Sr., Eli George, Sr., and Elmer George, Philip George, Sr.; and sisters, Mary Thompson and Hannah Thomas. Genella is survived by her loving daughter, Jan; son, John (Cheryl); granddaughter, Ellen Fox (Andy) and their children, Ellie, Hannah, and John Louis; grandsons, Ricky, David (Emily) and their daughter, Charlotte, Stephen (Sara) and their son, Austin, and Tony Shaheen; sister, Lucille Moisan; brother, Glenn George; and several nieces and nephews. AND, the two best caregivers in the world, Rosemary Dennis and Sherla Martin, who loved her as their own. We attribute her well-being in her final years to these amazing ladies who never let anything get in their way when it came to our Mom. Rosie, Sherla, you are loved, and will be in our hearts forever. Your tender, loving care allowed her to live her dream of staying in her home. God bless you… Visitation will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, from 9am-10am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40222, with a memorial Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38150, or Hosparus, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40205. Thank you for being our Mom…”The Love of Our Life”.
