Aidan Barker Louisville, Kentucky Obituary

Aidan Barker

On his best and brightest days, Aidan Matthew Barker danced joyfully throughout the house, listening to his Baby Einstein tunes and filling a room with his belly laughs, big blue eyes and infectious smile. When he looked off in the distance, his family was convinced he was talking to angels. Only later did we discover it was Aidan who was the angel – our angel. Surrounded by his loving family at their Mason, Ohio, home, Aidan passed away Aug. 26. He was 12. He was born Sept. 30, 2003, and was to start his seventh-grade year at Mason Intermediate School this month. Though he never spoke with words, Aidan found ways – through smiles, hugs and his sweet spirit -- to express his love for family and teachers who provided tremendous care for him over the years. He inspired all of us daily in countless ways through his unconditional love and courage as he battled a neurological disorder that gripped him as an infant. There has never been a sweeter, kinder boy. He is survived by his parents, Sarah (Lydon) Barker and Matthew Barker of Mason; siblings, Julia and John; grandparents John and Jacqueline (Doyle) Lydon of Louisville; and Helen Lynn Barker of Mason. Other survivors include uncle Eric Lydon, M.D., (Stacey Parks) of Louisville; aunt Laura (Lydon) Green, (Richard Green) of Cincinnati; great-aunt Nancy Strohmeyer of Mason; great-uncle Allen Strohmeyer of Portland; great-grandmother Gladys Strohmeyer of Mason; and dear family friend, Maureen Mathis of Philadelphia. He is cherished by cousins Stephanie, Samantha and Shelby Lydon; Abigail, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Benjamin and Corey Green; and Jessica Yeadon. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road in Kenwood and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road in Louisville, Ky. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 443 S 5th St, Louisville, KY 40202. Memorials can be made to St. John Center for Homeless Men, 700 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, Ky. 40202. We will eternally miss our angel, Aidan. We are heartbroken, but we are comforted knowing he has found his voice and is reunited in heaven with loved ones who preceded him in death.
