Norman Young

Norman R. Young, age 77, of Lubbock, Texas died Friday, October 21, 2016 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born March 5, 1939 in Macksville, Kansas, the son of Ralph McKinley and Snowie Mable (Wood) Young. Norman grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. He married Mae Dell Folley in 1958 in Ulysses. Norman worked in operations for Amoco/BP until he retired at the age of 67. His worked took their family to various locations in the United States. In 2009, they were transferred to Lubbock, Texas where they live today. After retiring, Norman was a safety consultant for Conoco Phillips for five years. He enjoyed working in the yard and playing golf. Norman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lubbock, and former member of the Elks Lodge in Wyoming. He is survived by his wife, Mae Dell Young of their home; daughters, Dana Broughman and Doris of St. Francis, Kansas, Jana George and Paul of Montpelier, Idaho; five grandchildren, Mandy Jahnke and husband Chad, Dani Broughman, Ashli Clements and husband Tristan, Courtni George and Nolan George; two great-grandchildren, Shelby, and Austin Jahnke; brother, Leon Young of Ulysses, Kansas; sister, Berniece Correll of Hesston, Kansas; brother-in-law, Gus Brown of Johnson, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Roxana Young of Ulysses, Kansas. Norman is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd (Butch) Young; sister, Betty Brown; mother-in-law, Opal B. Folley; father-in-law, V.W. (Pete) Folley; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Young; and brother-in-law, Ted Correll. Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses with family present. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
