Harley Clifford McDaniel, 82, of Overland Park, KS, passed away April 18, 2009, at Kansas City, MO Hospice House. Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Friday, April 24, 2009 at Unity Church of Overland Park, 10300 Antioch Rd, OP, KS, 66212. Visitation will be from 11:00 am â€" 1:30 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, 913-856-7111 with a 2:00 pm graveside service following at Antioch Cemetery, Spring Hill, KS. Harley was born September 10, 1926 in Gardner, KS to Clifford Jim and Ruby Frazee McDaniel. He earned his Bachelorâ€™s Degree from Pittsburgh State College and his Masterâ€™s in Education at Iowa University. Harley married Delores May Oshel on June 17, 1947 in Olathe, KS. He served in the US Army. In Iowa, Harley was a Math teacher and High School Coach for boys baseball and boys and girls basketball. They moved back to KC in 1955 and Harley owned Inter City Excavating in KC, MO. He was a member of the Unity Church of Overland Park, the Olathe American Legion, the KC Garden Club, the Century Club of Childrenâ€™s Mercy, and a driver for the â€śCatch A Rideâ€ť program in Olathe. Harley had four things he wanted to accomplish, he wanted to learn to play the guitar, he became a private airplane pilot, owning a plane, he raised cattle on his 485 acre farm and he coached.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Cecil McDaniel, Denora McDaniel, Gertrude Watkins, Delores Jones and Imogene Brooks. Harley is survived by his wife Delores of the home; son Larry Ray and Paula McDaniel of Moyock, NC; daughter Pamela Sue Markeson of Raytown, MO; brothers Loren McDaniel of Paola, KS, J.C. McDaniel of Paola, KS, Harold McDaniel of Homer, LA; sisters Maxine Wright of Olathe, KS, Marilyn Helt of Peculiar, MO, Joyce Silva of CA, and Carolyn Rood of Olathe, KS; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
