Robert (Bob) L. Knox Obituary
On July 2, 1938 Robert Lee Knox was born to Robert DeVoe and Floy Gay (Angel) Knox. In Harrison, Arkansas. He passed from this life on October 7, 2016, at the age of 78, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
Bob attended schools in Arkansas and in Estherville, Iowa. He graduated from the Estherville High School in 1957. Then Bob went on to the Estherville Junior College and graduated after a 2 year program.
Bob and Marie Mortland were married in 1958, residing in Estherville. To their marriage a son, Randy and a daughter, Kristi were born.
He was employed by the Law Enforcement in Estherville serving as a police officer, Deputy Sheriff and Sheriff. He received numerous law enforcement awards and citations during his career as a peace officer. Bob began working in the City Chamber Office in 1960 and was very active with the service groups, he served as an officer in many groups and a was a board member for several organizations. After working Security at John Morrell, Bob was appointed Chief of Police in Estherville.
Bob was united in marriage with Kathy (Enderson) Hofstader in 1987. The couple moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, where Bob worked in the Security Department at the Saint Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. Later they moved to South Dakota, making their home in Brandon. Gateway, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hired Bob to work in the Safety and Security Department. Upon Gateway's leaving Sioux Falls, Bob was a Delivery Technician for Omnicare Pharmacuticals. Retirement brought the couple back to Estherville in 2010.
Bob enjoyed playing, coaching and officiating many sports. In school, Bob excelled at football, basketball and track. Many friends were made as he competed in golf, softball and bowling as an adult.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Bob's memory, are his wife, Kathy of Estherville. Daughter, Kristi Behne of St. Peter, Minnesota. Stepsons, James Hofstader, of Hillsboro, North Dakota and Jeff Hofstader of Spokane, Washington, stepdaughter, Tammy Dykstra of Estherville. Thirteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, DeVoe and Floy. Son, Randy. Sisters, Betty Gay Boyle and Carolyn Penny and brother, Jerry Knox. Also a Great-granddaughter.
