Randall Edward Greinert Obituary

Randall Edward Greinert, the son of Fred and Evelyn (Alt) Greinert was born April 10, 1957, in Algona, Iowa and departed this life on Saturday July 2, 2016, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 22 days.
He received his education at Sentral of Fenton graduating in 1975. He then attended Iowa Lakes Community College majoring in Hotel/Restaurant Management. After graduating college, Randy worked in several different restaurants perfecting his skills.
On Nov. 1, 1980, he was united in marriage to Linda Larsen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, Randy and Linda managed The Baron in Spencer, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two children Brandi and Matt. In 1984, Randy had the opportunity to buy the B&J Lounge in his hometown of Fenton. He had always wanted to own his own restaurant so this was his chance. In Nov. of that year The North Star Restaurant and Lounge was established. Over the next 32 years, The North Star saw many changes and recognitions. In 2002, Randy added on the addition and a complete kitchen remodel. He put his heart and soul into The North Star; expanding the menu, redecorating, expanding his customer base, and building personal relationships with many. Randy was interviewed for many newspapers and magazines for his accomplishments with The North Star; most recently in Our Iowa magazine. Randy enjoyed traveling, antiquing, garage sales, playing cards, and cruising around in his mustang convertible. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and his dog Harley.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton, served on the Fenton Telephone Board, and volunteered his time for many community based events.
Randy is survived by his daughter Brandi Harms and her husband Ryan of Fenton, Iowa; his son Matt Greinert and his special friend Sarah Berte also of Fenton. Two grandchildren; Rachel Becker-Harms and Angel Garcia. One sister Christy (Dan) Bleckwenn of Ringsted, Iowa; and good friend and caregiver Phil Smith of Waukee, Iowa. He’s also survived by a niece, a nephew, cousins, and all his North Star friends.
He has been preceded in death by his parents.
