In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cystic fibrosis Foundation in memory of Leila.

Leila Anna Marie (Bensen) Pertl, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Nelson) Bensen, was born November 14, 1925, in rural Ringsted, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa, at the age of 90.

She received her education in the Ringsted schools, graduating from Ringsted High School. After high school Leila attended Cedar Falls Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following her graduation Leila taught country school for a time.

On June 29, 1945, Leila was united in marriage to George Pertl at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted. The couple made their home in the Armstrong-Ringsted area where they began raising their family. Leila was known for her custom sewing. She was employed as Maintenance Engineer in the Ringsted School District for 12 years. In her leisure time Leila enjoyed sewing, crocheting, traveling, gardening and visiting family and friends. Most important to Leila was spending time with her family.

She was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong where she was active in various ladies circles and the quilting guild.

Left to cherish Leila's memory are her children, Sandra Mueller and her husband, George of Penn Valley, California; Ronald Pertl and his wife, Carmeen of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mary Ann Laffey and her husband, Danny of Birmingham, Alabama; Jane Naig and her husband, Kevin of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lyle Bensen.

Leila has been preceded in death by her husband; son, Delond; sister, Leona Sabin and her parents.
