Donald Alvin Erickson, the son of Adolph and Lucille (Hoffa) Erickson, was born May 13, 1928, in Pequot, Minnesota. He passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 88.

Don graduated from Heron Lake, Minnesota, High School in 1946.

On June 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Patricia Chapman in Terril, Iowa. He was employed at Chapman Produce in Terril. The couple began raising their family and Don was employed as a truck driver. Later they moved to Estherville and Don was employed as a mechanic at Donovan Motors. He drove school bus for Terril Community Schools. After his retirement, he drove the Avera Holy Family Hospital van. In his leisure time he enjoyed motorcycling and belonged to Iowa Great Lakes Road Riders Motorcycle Club and he loved helping out on the farm, golfing and bird watching. Most important to Don was spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Don's memory are his wife, Patricia of Estherville; his children, Steven Erickson and his wife, Michele of Estherville; David Erickson and his wife, Phyllis of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Janice Ferguson of Dickens, Iowa; Jodi Pospisil and her husband, Neil of Burlington, Iowa; Jon Erickson of Estherville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and two brothers, Dale Erickson and his wife, Hazel of Estherville, Roger Erickson and his wife, Dee of West Plains, Missouri and two sisters, Alice Mitts of Estherville and Marlys Kroenke of Estherville; and also fourteen nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Lyle and Lenore Chapman; step-mother-in-law, Lucille Chapman; sister-in-law, Ginny Thiesen; two brothers-in-law, Carl Mitts and Henry Kroenke; son-in-law, Hal Ferguson and nephew, Chris Erickson.

In lieu of flowers family prefers memorials to Estherville United Methodist Church or the Estherville Good Samaritan Society.
