John Raymond "Doc" Sievert, the son of Johnnie and Jean (Welch) Sievert, was born November 16, 1945, in Heron Lake, Minnesota. He passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at his home in Estherville, Iowa, from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), at the age of 67.

Doc grew up the son of a Dairy farmer west of Okabena, Minnesota. In his early years, he tried his hand at music and was in a band called the "Interns." Doc graduated from Okabena, Minnesota, High School in 1964. He attended vocational school, specializing in refrigeration and appliance repair. Doc was a natural born mechanic, mentored by his father Johnnie.

On July 31, 1965, Doc was united in marriage to Judith Ann (Jeppesen) Sievert at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, Judy and Doc moved to Estherville, Iowa to make their home and raise their family. Doc was employed with Blass Skelgas and Appliances. In 1970, the couple opened their own business, Sievert's Refrigeration. As the business grew and expanded, they began selling furniture and carpeting and eventually the business became known as Sievert's Furniture & Floors. Their son Jeff also joined the family business. As a entrepreneur and businessman, Doc and his family grew Sievert's Furniture & Floors into an established and successful business in the community of Estherville.

Doc was a licensed pilot, which eventually led him into the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Captain. He was very active in Civil Air Patrol where he participated in many missions, locating aircraft that were reported missing. His dedication to training cadets in search and rescue was second to none.

Doc was an inquisitive individual and quite adventurous to say the least. Throughout his colorful life, Doc could be found diving at the lakes, fishing, rafting the West Des Moines, spelunking mines and off-roading in Arizona, hunting his acerage, and working on his guns. Other activities not for the weak of heart that Doc was involved in were skydiving, bungee jumping and rappelling. One of his latest adventures was to hike to the top of Crazy Horse Monument. He was active in the Estherville Halloween Association and developed the "Haunted Hike" in an area behind the Sievert Home, which was a very popular event for area children. Doc was very involved in the Estherville Community and loved participating in Hot Dog Days and you would always find the Old Gun Slinger Doc roaming the streets of Estherville and a leader in the Shootout. He was active also in the Okabena Shootout. Later in life Doc became a member of the newly formed Black Knight's Car Club in Estherville and was very proud of his Shelby GT500. He loved being in parades with his car. As anyone who knew Doc, you can imagine if there was a practical joke to be played, one would find Doc the instigator and culprit behind the joke. One of Doc's greatest accomplishments and legacy includes his invention of the Tri-S, Sievert Stealth Safety revolvers. Doc was a stranger to none, it was very clear that he loved both his family, friends, and most of all time with Judy, their children, and their grandchildren. Doc was very active in supporting his grandchildren in their school and sporting activities in Iowa and Arizona.

Doc was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Black Knights Car Club.

Left to cherish Doc's memory is his wife, Judy and their children; Jeff Sievert and his wife, Jennifer of Estherville; Jodi (Sievert) Mulligan and her husband, Casey of Bullhead City, Arizona; his beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Allie, Casey, Madeline and Maisy; and his siblings, Jerrie, Joyce, Janet and Jane.

Preceding Doc in death were his parents and sister, Judy Etheridge.
