Gloria Bentz

Gloria M. Bentz, 90, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at her residence. She was born on August 23, 1925, in Adams County, IN, the daughter of the late Floyd and Lydia (Hanni) Shoaf. On July 9 1947, she married Alfred J. “Shorty” Bentz and after 47 years together, he preceded her in death on January 21, 1995. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and worked her entire life as a homemaker. Gloria was a devoted, wife, mother, and grandmother and loved her family above all. She is survived by her daughter, Ann L. Burkhalter of Decatur; her son, John J. (Gina Anderson) Bentz of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Shane, & Brieann Burkhalter and Daniel Bentz, Whitney (Nathan) Mihm, &Hannah Bentz; 8 great grandchildren, Adalyn & Brody Burkhalter, Kaylee & Karson Bentz, Rylan, Colin, & Rowan Mihm, and Easton Bentz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Loren Shoaf and 3 sisters, Virginia Fosnaugh, Betty Hammond, and Doris Hemmelgarn. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home A Prayer Service will be held at 9:20 a.m. at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Bob J. Lengerich will be presiding and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Section of the Decatur Public Library.
