Shelby Jean Fulghum, 78, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:08 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Shelby was born on July 26, 1937, in Jackson County, Illinois, to John C. Qualls and Rose (Lindsay) Qualls. Mrs. Fulghum had worked as a Sheriff's Deputy in Biloxi, Mississippi, and as a nurse's aid in Illinois. She like to crochet and knit. She married Billy Eugene Fulghum in 1952, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1992. Shelby is survived by one daughter Virginia Bond and her husband Ivy L. Bond of Murphysboro; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son Billy Gene Fulghum, one brother, and her parents. Her body has been cremated and there will be no services.
