George Ray Washington Stroud, 76, of Grand Tower, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Rehab and Care Center of Carbondale. George was born on October 28, 1939, in Mississippi County, Missouri, to Mr. and Mrs. Stroud. He had worked as a truck driver. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Tower, Illinois. George married Lillian Dickerson on July 16, 1960, at the First Baptist Church, in Steel, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2015. He is also preceded in death by one brother Eddie. He is survived by three sisters in law Vivian Parham of Grand Tower, Naomi Blackburn of Woodriver, Nola Bland of Kampsville, IL; one brother in law Robert Dickerson of Cape Girardeau, MO; and several nieces and nephews. His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2016, at Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower, with Rev. Gilbert Gee officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pettett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
