Donal J. McKinney, Sr., 86, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at his residence in Murphysboro. Donal was born on January 6, 1930, in Chester, Illinois, to Samuel Frederch McKinney and Adelphia (Stirnaman) Lunsford McKinney. Mr. McKinney had served in the U.S. Army and then he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Donal had retired as an aero-mechanic with McDonnell-Douglass in St. Louis, Missouri. He loved to put model airplanes together and he loved western novels and movies. He enjoyed talking with people. Donal married Freida Lee on March 25, 1987, in Wickliffe, Kentucky, and she survives. Other survivors include eight children and their spouses Donal "Mac" and Terri McKinney of Perryville, MO, Tim and Julie McKinney of Stillwater, OK, Mark and Kim McKinney, Tracy and Tom Maue, and Kim and Bob White, all of Chester, IL, Michelle Ellenberg of Woodstock, GA, Robbie and Suki Roedersheimer of Belleview, FL, and Rita and Randy Newfarmer of Murphysboro; twenty two grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and one sister and brother in law Barbara "Bobbi" and Bob Junkin of Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents. His body will be cremated. Gravesite services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Mt. Carbon Cemetery with Pastor Dan Wilson officiating with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Memorials may be made to the family.
