Berta Mae Turton, 97, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the University Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Edwardsville, Illinois. A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Altar Society. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com. Berta was born on July 23, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri, to George and Laura (Ferguson) Allen. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Turton was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, St. Andrew Altar Society, and the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, all of Murphysboro. Berta Mae married Lyle M. Turton on June 7, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1997. She is survived by three children and their spouses Betty and Jerry Gaffney of Ashville, NC, Barbara and Robert McCoy of Bonita Springs, FL, Jeanne and Drake Kaase of Edwardsville, IL; five grandchildren and their spouses Drake Kaase II and Tori Kaase, Molly Gaffney Keebler and Joe Keebler, Michael and Julie Gaffney, Matthew and Kendra Gaffney and Shane McCoy; six great grandchildren Samantha Keebler, Jack Keebler, Eli Kaase, Emma Kaase, Bailey Gaffney, and Max Gaffney; three sisters and one brother and their spouses Georgia and Michael Cliffe, Joan Wecke, Michale and Karen Allen, all of St. Louis, MO, and Mary Taylor of Springfield, IL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
