Andrew Dean Carpenter, 71, of Murphysboro, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at his residence in Murphysboro. Andrew was born on June 23, 1944, in Jackson County, Illinois, to Loren E. Carpenter and Reba (McElmurry) Carpenter. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Carpenter had retried from Twin County Service Company after working as a salesman for thirty nine years. Andy loved mowing and taking care of his yard and gardening. He enjoyed playing with trains with his grandson, or just spending time with him. He was a chauffeur to Sharon, or in other words, driving "Miss Daisy". He married Sharon Mileur on February 24, 1968, in Carbondale, and she survives. Other survivors include one son and daughter in law Jeff and Lavona Carpenter of Noble, IL and one daughter and son in law Jennifer and Jeffrey Jones of Ava; one grandson Jarrett Jones of Ava; three brothers Loren "Al" Carpenter, John Carpenter, and Paul Carpenter, all of Murphysboro; two sisters Betty Graff and her husband John of Murphysboro and Jeanette Baker and her husband Dan Baker of Decatur; several brother in laws and sister in laws; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Carpenter and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. James Easton officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
