Joyce DeBose, 78, of Johnston City, passed away 3:05 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2016 at her residence with her loving family by her side. Joyce was born February 3, 1938 in Johnston City to William A. “Bill” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Leonard) Smith. She married Russell DeBose on July 27, 1963 in Johnston City. Together they have shared 53 years of marriage. Joyce was retired having been employed by the First National Bank of Sparta before moving back to Johnston City. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City. She was a 1955 graduate of Johnston City High School. Joyce and Russell were proud supporters of Johnston City Athletics for many years. She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her great nieces and great nephew. Joyce is survived by her husband, Russell DeBose of Johnston City, son Brian DeBose of Marion; granddaughter Brooke Debose of Nashville, TN; grandson Dillon DeBose of Carterville; daughter-in-law, Kimberleigh DeBose of Carterville; sister-in-law, Rose Marie (Lazorchak) of Johnston City; niece, Chanda (John) McCoy of Johnston City; nephew, Chad Smith of Johnston City; several great nieces, Jaden Nichole Smith, Hadleigh Arianne Smith, and Aliyna Elisabeth McCoy; one great nephew, Jarron Wesley McCoy. She is also survived by very dear friends, Maureen and Vernon Kee of Johnston City and Larry and Rhonda Wilson of Steeleville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Smith and a great niece Kerrigan Marie McCoy. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City with Rev. Msgr. Thomas D. Flach officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
