Geronimo "Mo" Schubert, 36, lived a short but fulfilled life of love and adventure that abruptly ended May 23, 2016. Born September 4, 1979 in Berlin, Mo went on his first great adventure at age 2 when he moved to Thailand with his mother, Doris. There he found immense joy in playing with the island monkeys and forever wanted one as a pet. Before long, Doris resettled Mo in Japan which became their home for a while. Fluency of languages was born as well as a deep appreciation for Japanese culture. Before long another island called and at age 11, Mo found himself living in rural Hawaii where he first learned to speak English. Mo's love of culture deepened, offering a kind of spirituality for Mo to follow rather than traditional religion. Laughlin, Nevada followed Hawaii and became "home" for high school, friendships, and stability. During those years, Mo excelled on the football field and wrestling mat. He won the Nevada State Championship his junior year. His wrestling coach, Ben Fermon, became Mo's mentor and lifelong friend. The town of Ketchum welcomed Mo in 1999, and it was here upon his arrival that he met the love of his life, Becca. They married in 2008 but shared a total of 15 amazing years together. Mo radiated love, and everyone he met, regardless of circumstance, was treated as family. Beloved dogs Cooper, D'Lila, and Luna were considered Becca and Mo's children. Losing Cooper last year broke their hearts, but there is solace and comfort now knowing Mo and Cooper are playing together. Mo loved his jobs at Hayden Beverage and Lefty's where open discussions over a beer on the two things you weren't supposed to talk about (religion and politics) delighted Mo more than anything. He loved to broaden his mind and encouraged others to do the same. Opening his mind to bigger and bigger things led Mo to his greatest passion, (besides playing the guitar) and that was teaching. At the time of his death, Mo was taking online courses to fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher. Mo fully believed that the spiritual teachings of kindness, forgiveness, nurturance, and reconciliation are taught to each of us, but that it is up to us to live accordingly. To be kind without needing recognition. To be nurturing to all. To serve without acknowledgement. To forgive and reconcile when hurt has occurred. These are the most important things in life. Life is too short to carry grudges. Like all romantics, Mo had an amazing appreciation of music. He loved playing his guitars and camping at Stanley Inlet in the old 68' VW bus “Bessie”. He was the proud Godfather of beautiful Sophie. More than anything, he loved spending time with his soul mate and best friend, Becca. In a recent text, Mo declared that his love for Becca "made his cup runneth over." The last act of Mo's life took place on Highway 93 just outside of Las Vegas, where he passed a couple whose car had run out of gas. Mo stopped and took the couple to a gas station and then drove them back to their car before heading on his way to Las Vegas to meet with Coach Fermon and his high school buddies. It was this same couple who Mo had helped get gas that first came upon the accident which instantly claimed Mo's precious life. We are so grateful for Mo’s love, his smile, and his kindnesses bestowed. We will miss you forever. Please keep Mo’s spirit alive by practicing the lessons he taught each one of us. Please come celebrate Mo's life on June 12th at Lefty's from 3-6 p.m. Bring your favorite story or photo, and enjoy a beer and a brat while listening to his favorite band, Cow Says Moo, as they play tribute to our Mo.
