Cathy Lee Smith, 55, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2015 at her home in Newton. Born July 7, 1960 in Michigan, Cathy was the daughter of the late Roger Alden Smith and Betty Lee Bullard Smith. She worked as a police officer for the Albany Police Department for 15 years. For the last couple of years with the department she worked as an investigator. Cathy was a very loving and giving person who worked with the FOP, Shop with a cop program for several years and was always trying her best to help less fortunate children. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Though she never had any children of her own, she had many that she loved and made a difference in their lives. Survivors include her siblings, Robin and Joel Tomlinson of Newton, Nancy and Ronnie Duckworth of Sylvester, Michael and Ann Smith of Valley, AL, Terrie Harrell of Albany and Lane Harrell; several nieces and nephews; three special companion dogs that she dearly loved, Susie, Star and Peanut. It was Cathy’s request for her services to be private and the family is honoring those wishes.
