Sue Roskosh Obituary

The family of Berta “Sue” Ferrell Roskosh, 81, of East Palatka, mourn her passing on Sunday, June 26, 2016. Sue and her brother grew up in San Mateo. She graduated from Mellon High School in Palatka and Stetson University in DeLand. She married and eventually moved to Palatka to raise her two daughters and take over the family business, then known as Wattles Office Supply and Printing. She has been a resident of the Palatka area for over 70 years and was an active member of the community. Sue’s love for the St. John’s River was evident as she enjoyed many days fishing and boating on the river. Other interests included participating in the Jr. Women’s Club, Downtown Palatka, Christmas Parade, Blue Crab Festival and the Palatka Planning Board. Her favorite civic organization was by far The Kiwanis Club of Palatka, aka ‘The Old Man’s Club’. She served as the first female president of the club in 1995 and then went on to serve as the district’s Lt. Governor in 1996. After retiring, she continued to be involved in the community but also took time to enjoy her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren have many precious memories of the summer vacations she spent with them at the beach and Florida Keys. Sue had an infectious laugh and enjoyed a bit of mischief throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents Carey E. and Lois Ferrell, Sr. and by her significant other of 25 years, John Janosko. Surviving are two daughters, Linda (James) McClarney of East Palatka and Cathy Matthews of Orlando; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dave) Hyman of Orlando, Jonathan (Jillian) Griffith of Palatka, Jenny (Jeremy) Reed of Marietta, GA and Michael Matthews of Boca Raton; her brother Carey (Libby) Ferrell, Jr. of Sanford; two nephews, Mike Ferrell and Bob Ferrell; and four great grandchildren. Also remaining is her dear cousin and shrimping buddy, Mary Hurley Steele. The family would like to thank Sheila Beck, Kiva and Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center for caring for Sue towards the end of her life. Friends and family are invited to a public memorial to celebrate Sue’s life on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until noon at Wattles, 110 S. Second Street. Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Sue’s Book of Memories page at www.JohnsonOverturfFunerals.com . Memorial gifts may be sent to further research for a cure to Alzheimer’s Association National Office, 225 N Michigan Ave. Fl.17, Chicago, IL 60601.
