Rex Burge Palatka, Florida Obituary

Rex Burge

Rex Alan Burge, 60, of Palatka, went Home to be with Jesus Monday, September 5, 2016 at Putnam Community Medical Center after a long battle with illness. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he lived in Palatka since 1969 after moving with his family from Gainesville. He attended Palatka South High School. Rex retired from the Palatka Gas Authority after 29 years of service. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowshipping with good friends, playing music (drums) and liked all kinds of music – especially gospel. With his wife, Rex enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, traveling, diving, and most of all spending time with his family - especially their grandkids. Rex was a friend to everyone, a hard worker, always willing to lend a hand and offer a word of encouragement – and he always loved to laugh. He loved his friends and family fiercely. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Burge and Betty Ann Stingley Burge as well as a daughter, Lori Michelle Bourgeois. Rex is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shannon Burge of Palatka, a daughter, Shamberly Coleman (husband, Jeremy) of Palatka, a brother, Randy Burge and a sister, Cheryl Stevens of Interlachen, and 5 grandchildren, Garrett Coleman, Laurelai Coleman, Kamri Bourgeois, Trevor Sweat and Brandon Sweat, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services at 2:00 P.M. In honor of Rex, attire will be casual. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the U-Turn Community Outreach, Inc., P O Box 1568, Palatka, FL 32178. Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Rex’s Book of Memories page at www.JohnsonOverturffunerals.com.
