Iva Jeanne Moody Zetrouer, 91, of Palatka, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at her home following an extended illness. She was born in 1925 in Palatka, daughter of Lester and Suzie Moody. She was a 1943 graduate of Mellon High School. Iva Jeanne graduated from Tift College, in Forsyth, GA with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and then earned her graduate degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville. While at Tift College she pledged Alpha Delta Feta Sorority and Nu Kappa Epsilon and was chosen as Senior Superlative. She taught biology and physiology for 23 years in the Putnam County School System. While teaching, she was the first teacher selected by the School Board as Putnam County Teacher of the Year. She sponsored the Beta Club at the high school for 16 years and served a two-year term as The State of Florida Beta Sponsor. Iva Jeanne was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Palatka Pilot Club serving as President, Corresponding Secretary and Finance Chairman. She also served two terms as First Vice President, Birthday Luncheon Chairman and Corresponding Secretary for the Women’s Club. She was President of Team Town Advisory Board, Director of The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and Education Chairman of the Putnam County Cancer Society. She was honored by being chosen Putnam County Woman of the Year. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Palatka where she taught Sunday School to several age groups. In recent years she served as a volunteer and counselor for The North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network for abused women and children. She also volunteered for The N.W. Georgia Hospice, N.E. Florida Hospice and Road to Recovery Cancer Society. In 1948 she married her high school sweetheart, Raiford Zetrouer and upon retirement from teaching, she worked with him at his retail business. They lived part time each year at their mountain home in Blue Ridge, Georgia. After more than 55 years of marriage, Raiford passed away. She is preceded in death by her husband Raiford Zetrouer and son, Lester Zetrouer. She is survived by her son, Robert Zetrouer (Sharon) of St. Augustine, 7 grandchildren, Jessica, John Robert, Jacob, Melissa, Daniel, Jason and Jennifer and 9 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Palatka with Bro. Vernon Harkey officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
