Obituary
Daniel Roger “Doc” Ziem, Sr., 66, of Palatka, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Governor’s Creek Health and Rehab in Green Cove Springs following an extended illness. A native of Paterson, New Jersey, he resided in Palatka since 1972 coming from Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. Daniel honorably served as a SEAL in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He had worked several places over the years including as a fireman in New Jersey and in Palatka, as a machinist at Central States Diversified in Palatka, at Rosier Oil Company and as a security guard with Wells Fargo. “Doc” was a member and served as Vice Commander of American Legion Post #45, a member of the Elks Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Daniel was involved in scouting and served as Assistant Scout Master of Troop #62 and Troop #107 and had been a coach in Little League Baseball. “Doc” will also be forever remembered for his Patriotism and love of country. Daniel is survived by 2 sons, Daniel R. Ziem, Jr of Palatka and Johnny Ziem (Katie) of Jackson, WY, a daughter, Heather Wyble (Norman) of Gulf Port, FL, 4 brothers, Arnold Ziem (Claire) of Wayne, NJ, Leonard Ziem of Billings, MT, Harry Ziem (Karen) of Milford, PA and Larry Ziem (Rene) of TX, 2 sisters, Charlotte Hoots of Converse, TX and Janette Philips of Leesburg, 5 grandchildren, Michael Doane, Cristian Doane, Sorayah Ziem, Haley Wyble and Norman Wyble and a great-grandchild, Hunter Doane. Memorial services celebrating Daniel’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at St. James United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Hanna officiating. American Legion Post #45 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to American Legion Post #45, 316 Osceola St., Palatka, FL 32177.
