Ben Porter, 81, of Palatka, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. He was a native of Collins, Georgia and had lived in Putnam County since 1977 coming from Jacksonville. Ben served in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Hollis Barber Shop for over 50 years. Ben was an accomplished artist and was known locally in Jacksonville. He was a member of Bostwick Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eva Porter of Palatka, daughters, Alicia McDaniel (Terry) of Palatka and Eva Lynn Gonzalez (Reynol) of Crescent City, brother, Don Porter (Wanda) of Macon, GA and 5 grandchildren, Jared Porter, Reynol Gonzalez, Jr., Eva Eliza Gonzalez, Justin McDaniel and Garrett McDaniel. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Leon Edenfield officating. Burial will follow in Bostwick Cemetery.
