Joseph Berry

Joseph “Joe” Berry, Jr., was born in Corning, New York, on February 8, 1957, the son of Joseph Sr. and Lois Berry, of Waterloo, New York. Joe and his wife, Darkias, were married on April 21, 1979, in Romulus, New York; and have one son, John A. Berry, currently of Richlands, North Carolina. Joe worked for several years in the GTE/Sylvania manufacturing facility in Seneca Falls, New York, until the plant closed. He next worked for LA Johnson Construction performing multiple roles in the building trade. In 1982, he and his wife relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia, and Joe began his career as an engineering technician with the U.S. Naval Facilities Command until his passing. He enjoyed competing in all of the clay target sports, scuba diving, and fishing and just relaxing in his swimming pool. He found the most enjoyment in his life when he was spending time with his family and traveling to new and unique destinations. He was known to all of his friends and family as the most generous, caring and selfless person anyone could meet. Joe is survived by his parents; his wife, Darkias; son, John (Evelyn) Berry; two sisters, Diane (Ray) Long of Geneva, NY, and Carolyn Berry (David Miller) both of Romulus, NY; two brothers, Douglas (Amy) Berry of Fairport, NY, and Matthew (Angie) of Cobleskill, NY; two granddaughters, Patricia Berry and Jessica Myer; several nieces, nephews and friends from around the world. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Milton, with Rev. Larry Fischer officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
