John Burris

John W Burris, Sr, 89, of Pace, Florida, passed away at home September 25, 2016, surrounded by those he loved. We are here to give witness that he did not rust out! He was born in Terra Haute, Indiana, September 28, 1926. He relocated to Pensacola in 1955, before settling on his homestead in Pace in 1969, where he called home until his final day. He served his country during WWII and The Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Edna Peters of De Funiak Springs on June 17th of 1953. They lived in Indianapolis for a short period before making Pensacola their home in 1955. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Daisy Burris; brother, Delbert Burris; sisters, Beverly Burris and Jeanie Scott Webster. He is survived by his bride of 63 years, Edna Peters Burris; his beloved children, John (Liz) Burris, Jr, Lynn (Ny) Burris, James Buster Burris, and Brenda (Ronney) Wade. He adored his grandchildren, Erin (John) Berg, Lynn (Leigh) Burris II, Lyle R. Burris, Larissa Burris, James Burris, Matthew Burris, Austin (Brittany) Wade, and Alison Wade; as well as, his five great-grandchildren. John had a true passion for life. He loved his work as a contractor and brick mason, he was proud of what he built. He loved retirement, he enjoyed camping, spending time on Coldwater Creek, and he was a skilled card player who loved to gamble. But more than all of these things he loved his family. He was proud of his family and loved each and every one of them with a powerful love. He leaves his falmily with a beautiful legacy that will never be forgotten. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3 He worked hard, lived a great story and his love will endure for generations. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Cluster Springs Baptist Church Cemetery (County Hwy. 1084, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.)
