Grace Marie McMurray was born in Brooklyn New York on May 5, 1930, to Aaron and Grace McMurray. Early in her childhood her mother had succumb to pneumonia and passed away. With it being in the mid-1930s, during the great depression, her father thought it best that Grace and her younger sister, Rose Mary, be raised by their grandparents in Cliffside, North Carolina. Grace “Marie” as she was known, led a very normal small town life in rural North Carolina and graduated from Cliffside High School in 1949. After graduating, Marie decided to visit family members in Pensacola Florida, and enjoyed it so much there that she decided to stay. Marie got a job in a local department store where she met the love of her life and husband of 63 years, William “Bill” Chuites. They were married a year and a half later in March of 1952. Bill and Marie had two children, Rebecca Ellaine and Max Scott, and after they were both grown and moved away, Bill and Marie relocated to Pace, Florida, where they remained until health issues made it necessary for them both to go into Baptist Manor nursing home. Grace Marie is preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Grace McMurray; sister, Rose Mary Welch; daughter, Rebecca Cole; and her husband, Bill Chuites. Grace Marie is survived by son, Max Chuites; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Chuites; and four grandchildren, Scott Chuites, Tona Chuites, Jamie Cole and Jason Cole. Grace Marie passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016. She will be cremated at Lewis Funeral Home and memorial services are pending.
