Steve DeFraties of Cape Canaveral, Florida passed away suddenly of natural causes at his home on June 17, 2016. He was born on February 11, 1959 in Elgin, Illinois. His family moved to Satellite Beach in September of 1969 where he started school at Surfside Elementary. He was a graduate of Satellite High, where he excelled in both football and baseball. After high school, Steve attended the University of Florida where he played Rugby and was voted "Player of the Year". He graduated from UF with both a Bachelor and Masters degree. An avid sportsman, Steve then relocated to Australia to play Rugby and he continued to play sports until medical issues forced him to quit. Steve returned home to the states and after a short marriage, he moved to Cocoa Beach and the small town beach life that he loved. He worked as a manager at Olive Garden and later managed the Recreational Warehouse. He was a kind and gentle soul who loved a good "belly laugh". He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was extremely close to all his family. He was the life of the party with a quick wit and great sense of humor. He was always ready with a good joke, even if it was on him. Steve was a lover of all animals especially his dog, Buddy Love. Steve is survived by his mother Beverly of Satellite Beach, his sisters Sue Avent (Michael), Shari Deane (Greg), his brother Scott, two nieces and four nephews. He was thoughtful, caring, generous, and remained a lifelong super fan of the Florida Gators. Steve was an amazing man who was loved by his family and friends. He will be missed terribly. A mass of Christian burial will be held on July 2 @ 10:30 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Hwy A1A Indialantic, Florida. Reception at the family home following the mass. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be sent to the ASPCA in Steve's name. RIP Sweet Steve.
