In Memory of Sheldon D Smith (Bud) Bud passed away July 25, 2016, surrounded by family at the age of 96. He was born June 22 1920 in Cleveland, OH the son of Sheldon and Elsie Smith. Bud left Ohio for California where he worked at Pan American Airways as an Aviation Metalsmith. During WWII, he enlisted in the Navy reserve and was stationed in Pearl City working repairing airplanes in the south pacific. In June, 1946 he was discharge and settled in San Francisco with his bride Helen Dunsand raised their 2 sons, Sheldon and Dennis and daughter Dawn. Bud worked for Pan American Airways in California, New York and Florida and retired after 40 years in 1980. Bud and Helen headed west again and spent several years in Paradise, California where they volunteered at the local hospital and enjoyed camping. Early on Bud become involved in the Boy Scouts, as a troop leader, camp director and worked with Eagle Scout program. He has been helping young men become Eagle Scouts for over 55 years. He was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver award for his outstanding commitment to Scouting. Bud and Helen settle in Satellite Beach in 1995 where they become members of Satellite Beach United Methodist church. He worked and volunteered his time for the boy scouts and families of Troop 309. Helen passed away in June 2002 they were married for 58 years. Bud was a member of the Beach Masonic Lodge # 354 in Indialantic, FL and has been a Mason for over 60 years. Bud was a man of God with a pleasant smile, a good sense of humor and had a kind and loving spirit. One of his greatest joys was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bud is survived by son, Sheldon(Bud) Smith, daughter in law Connie Smith, son Dennis Smith and daughter Dawn Jackson , son in law Greg Jackson. Grandchildren, Kimberly Pfieffer, Sheldon Dale Smith, Michael Kevin Smith, wife Patima Kimberly Johnson, Husband Nate, Kelly Grennan husband Patrick (Chip) and Christy Giovannini, husband David (Gio) , and 15 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is scheduled on August 13 2016 at 11AM at Satellite Beach United Methodist Church with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Scout Troop 309 at Satellite Beach United Methodist Church 450 Lee Ave. Satellite beach Florida 32937 or Satellite Beach United Methodist Church, fellowship renovation fund.
